SOTD: October 3rd, 2014

I loved my shave today, it brought me back to “why” I love artisan soaps. On the WSR we are featuring Petal Pusher Fancies; which I also must add Frances Towle is a great person to work with as well as the first artisan soap brand I ever tried. Today I revisited that first soap and that wondrous moment when I said “what have I been missing”. So I will make this brief as this was an unexpected SOTD as I’ve been sitting in an airport for 6 hours for the trip to be cancelled.  So here we go !

First and foremost I want to talk about razor selection. That went by the wayside today to say the least. I ended up using my Above the Tie Atlas H2 open comb stainless razor. This is a beast of a razor. I shave every day and I do grow facial hair fast BUT not that fast. Amazingly not a cut or, weeper but the comfort level paired with a Voskhod on use 2 just wasn’t there. Great shave don’t get me wrong, close as could be while keeping my skin…. but just not the right razor the R2 or R1 would have been a much better choice. One day I will do an article on razor selection…. not tonight.

Next up was “Black tea” by Petal Pushers Fancies ! I reviewed this a long while back here on 365shaves. I need to find that review, and maybe even update it. all I know is today paired with my Edwin Jagger best badger in light horn I whipped up an amazing lather, I do not say that lightly. I would swear based on color which was brilliant white, and just super dense I was using a Tallow based soap. All PPF soaps are organic and are majorly Kokum butter and Vegan ! Truth be told that is why I bought this soap as I am vegan, it was the first labeled vegan soap I ever remembering seeing. It ended up being a win-win. To quickly describe “Black Tea” I would call it Southern Sweet Tea …. which I really love. Black Tea has a sweet note to it but without a doubt a tea like an orange pekoe quality to it. It also has undertones of aromatic spices of a chai like feel so nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. but these are not dominant notes at all.  Three passes later I was BBS smooth and I  mean true BBS here I am 16 hours later and not even a 5 o’clock shadow. Tomorrow may be a one pass shave.

To finish I ended up emphasizing that orange note and went with Fine L’Orange Noir after shave which complimented the soap great ! and a surprising balm made an appearance as I actually wanted to use TBS “Arber” , but ended up using C&E’s “Moroccan Myrrh” blended with TBS “Arber”. What a great combination of scents. I also love to blend scents so I had that sweet scent of “Arber” mixed with that exotic and ultra moisturizing “Moroccan Myrrh” (the soap I can’t stand but the balm is top quality) which is the new name for Nomad. It actually paired amazingly well and complimented the overall shave wonderfully.

There you have it folks a late night post that honestly I did not think was going to happen ! Hope you all had great shaves today and at this point if you’re in my part of the world I also hope you have wonderful sleep. See you all tomorrow ! – Aaron
