SOTD: October 2nd, 2014

Great shave again today with minimal effort. I am going to be using more obscure razors and soaps from my collection this month, and I am finding that I really enjoy these items…I hope I am not setting myself up for a RAD, SAD as I am somewhat under control at the moment ! So Lets take a little peek at my SOTD.

For my razor I went with my undisputed favorite series of Gillette razor, the new improved series. Most of these razors were exactly the same but the case was different or, on some instances the razor was actually different from the others. Today I used my favorite of the series the “Bostonian”. What can I say I am a Red Sox fan, a Patriots fan, and it’s called a Bostonian ! The new improved sported a few new innovations over its predecessor the NEW including better lather removal channels and a different interlock system and angle of the combs; remember this is 1922 I do not believe there was a closed comb yet so these were all open comb razors. I paired this with a Voskhod blade. This blade is amazing and in my top 3 blades, but like the Sputnik is not always accessible though I have a source it can take some time in transit. The awesome thing with this blade is;  I have NEVER gotten less than 10 shaves off of a blade. Great setup here.

For my soap I changed up again as the season change and my scents also change with them. I used Tcheon Feung Sing’s Cannella Arancio Amaro. The way I always describe this soap is like a cinnamon bun with a hint of bay rum and nutmeg. It is wonderful fall and winter scent and I am 99% sure it is tallow based so the lather is always wonderful and creamy. I used my Marting custom Silvertip today which I LOVE this brush. Matthew the artisan behind this brush is amazing at blending color and using the brush handle as his palate. I asked for him to match my scuttle and he not only matched it he was 100% on mark just take a look at these photo’s… not to mention the hair on this knot is super soft and releases lather very well, and at the price you could buy 3 of them for the cost of one commercial brand that is only half as good.

That was my SOTD folks ! Simple Effective and very enjoyable. I closed it down with the famous Pinaud VIBR (Bay Rum). which while not an exact match they compliment each other nicely and Cremo balm is truly amazing as well, this is one of the few balms I can say is truly sent free despite the labels claims. Cremo is an Excellent balm to say the least.
