Well, I took a break posting here for a while but not from shaving. I have been shaving fairly regularly. This past month I was approached by a PR guy from Micro Touch who wanted me to test out their nose trimmers. My nose was itchy at the time so I said “sure, why not”. A week later I received a rather large box containing all three of their products. Two personal trimmers and the Micro Touch One double edge safety razor that Rick Harrison from the TV show Pawn Stars promotes.
My Thoughts after shaving with this razor for a week? Well, I think this is a great little razor. It’s about a medium on the aggressiveness scale. I would certainly not have a problem recommending this to anyone who want to get started traditional wet shaving. It comes with two packs of Dorco blades. These are not bad blades. I would suggest to anyone new to using DE razors to get yourself a sampler pack of blades. Blades are one area where you can adjust the comfort of your shave and it’s different person to person.
The Micro Touch razor is a classic looking twist to open (TTO) razor. It is very close in design to the old Gillette Super Speed razors of the 50s and 60s.
This razor is solid brass and you ten tell by the heft. It doesn’t feel cheap and the mechanism is smooth and firm. The handle length is medium. Not to long or short. Should work for most hands. There is good grip with the deep knurling in the handle making it easy to grip when wet.
It doesn’t get any easier than a TTO mechanism. Twist the bottom dial, the silos open, put in a blade and twist to close them again. Easy.
I got great shaves with this using the included Dorco blades. They gave it the right amount of aggressiveness. Cuts easy but doesn’t kill your face. If you are a beginner, take your time and remember, no pressure on the head of the razor. Let the weight of the razor do all the work. I think replacing the blades with my favorites will put the Micro Touch One into a high spot on my favorite shavers.
In the DE world you can find slightly better deals. I am not sure you can get one anywhere close from a large chain like Walmart. This is a great find and is WAY cheaper than buying one of the current plastic monstrosities by Gillette.
